Worst Lowdown Feeling
04:07
|
|||
Chrs: It's the Worst Low Down Feeling that I know
It's the Worst Low Down Feeling that I know
I'ts like your whole world is going somewhere
and you ain't invited with it
It's the Worst Lowdown Feeling that I know.
We were down in Lubbock when she told me she couldn't take it
anymore, my gypsy kind of ways
She had her suitcase packed up, with all of her possessions
and it was bulging in an explosive kind of way
I said to her "Hey Baby
What about those kisses
don't tell me that they don't mean a thing."
She said to me " Hey BAby? Don't you give me no hey babies!
as far as I'm concerned those kisses hopped a train!"
Chrs
My plans fell through in Phoenix, then again in Memphis
and a dozen or more towns along the road
and sometimes I'd write her letters
to places she might've gone
but no replies ever came my way.
Chrs
So I went Back to Lubbock
'cause I just couldn't take it
anymore, needed closure some bad way.
And I rented our old apartment
and painted a mural on the wall
of things we could be if we could try again today.
And I made us Dolphin trainers
Lord and deep sea divers
and other dreams a child might wish his way
And I kept thinking you might come back,
Lord, when you didn't
On the door out I painted you walking away
Chrs......

Blindside
04:17
|
|||
You wake to miss the morning
you never got to see
thinking you were happier than you had a right to be
How come it comes easy, easy, easy, for a while
Had you stone blind
Caught you on the Blindside
Never saw it coming
On your Blindside
look up and it's gone
On your Blindside
never saw it coming now it's gone
Oh you come to curse the rivers
for the changing that they do
saying damn the Mississippi,
damn the Colorado Too
They just take it all away, carving a new route
Around you. That's what they do.
Chrs: Catch you on the Blindside.... gone gone gone gone gone
You pick yourself back up
From face down in your room
Saying I will not forget this
Maybe even learn a thing or two.
But looking over your shoulder
still leaves you wide open
on the other side
got you paralyzed

Boogerproof
03:40
|
|||
Third-Grade Outsider / Right there on the Cusp
Navigating society / at least the Best I Could
When a kid with all the Power / Circled ‘round me with his friends, and said If I ate a booger, I could / Hang around with them
Well I wish I could report to you / I told ‘em go jump a fence
But then and there I ate that booger and I’ve been / Eating boogers since
My life did not turn out so Bad them guys, they kept their word And I grew up in their world / of the unkind and the absurd
Knowing I’d never be the hero,/ surviving’s more my thing Does it make me less a man or knowing my damned place?
Cause it’s boogers when you pay the rent/ Boogers when you vote Boogers with your coffee and that /Paper boogers wrote
Boogers for the overtime / That you have to work
When you want a promotion, then you find it’s / boogers for dessert.
Least I’m not like Pee Boy / Nobody had it any badder than him Yes he Pissed his pants Right in class / Age Ten
But his Life did not turn out so bad / that Guy he runs a Bank
And his Third Wife, she’s Hot as Hell and he keeps/ Gas in her Caddy tank
But I heard she’s stepping out / Man, It’s more booger than you think
And it’s boogers when you pay the rent/ Boogers when you vote Boogers in your coffee and that / Paper boogers wrote
Boogers for the overtime / That you have to work
When You want a Promotion, then you find it’s/ boogers for dessert.
You Say You Never Ate a Booger.... / Who You Talking Too? I ain’t met a Person yet / what’s Boogerproof.
Cause it’s Boogers for your phone bill / The Month Nobody Called Boogers on Your Internet Just’a / Trollin’ up your wall
I ain’t met a person yet what’s Boogerproof.
I ain’t met a person yet what’s Boogerproof.
And I ain’t met
a person yet
What’s Boogerproof?

Wyoming Sweet Tooth
04:24
|
|||
Wyoming I have Loved you / like a baby with its first tooth
It's a sweet tooth aint it baby / I have stood beside your rivers in the morning
after rolling from a sweet dream / of my loving baby's arms
before the alarm / Before the alarm.
Oh and I have come to know you
like and old friend to lean upon
when I look up at your mountains, purple majesty ain't wrong
and I'm gonna love you like my first broken heart
there at the start of knowing love
Time moves on, get born get gone
like a turkey through the tall corn
Time moves on, get born get gone
like a turkey through the tall corn
Taking that second step away, just like a clumsy toddler'd do
hoping I don't fall down on unfamiliar ground ahead
far from the arms I know would pick me up
and push me how I'd need to go
Oh and I have come to know you like and old friend to lean upon
when I look up at your mountains, purple majesty ain't wrong
and I'm gonna love you like my first broken heart
there at the start of knowing love
Time moves on, get born get gone
like a turkey through the tall corn
Time moves on, get born get gone
like a turkey through the tall corn
This is where I met ole Johnboy, and laughed with Trampas too.
and me and ole Brad Watson was singing them Bulldog blues
as we stared at the lights of Laramie
Shining like diamonds full of vice
as the Geese take flight
and the rivers turn to ice
as the Geese take flight
and the rivers turn to ice
Wyoming I have loved you....

Sweating in the Snow
03:57
|
|||
Here comes another sea change tide...
Again I wasn't ready this time
Should've seen it coming
too busy running these games I play
Baby got blessed, baby got gone
To the bottom of the world alone
Can't hold her on the phone
when things go wrong
or leave these things I've got left to do undone
Chorus:
She's got me sweating in the snow, working overtime
Trying not to lose my mind or get left behind
Working overtime, working overtime
Spend my money, blood, and mind
And either end up with nothing or leave nothing behind
Oh lord, Sweating in the snow, sweating in the snow
She got me sweating in the snow, sweating in the snow, sweating in the snow
Opposites attract that's so damned true,
she had a day-planner filled out and real life goals
Me, I was a monkey swinging through the trees
instead of swinging this hammer at the chains on me
Chorus
Bridge: So Look into my yard I'm as frantic as a flea
I'm the steaming pile of flesh you see
as the sun goes down and the snow falls round
won't you be a friend and turn my porch light on?
And I'll keep sweating in the snow...

Abraham
03:29
|
|||
Chorus: I thought I saw you out last night with Abraham
Sipping wine and sitting by a fire
There was a twinkle in your eye
that said them old rules don't apply
like they did back when we were friends
Me and Abraham, we were more like brothers.
Funny now how my killer was my kin
He used to tell me: "Bro, what do you need with that ho'
when you can have your pick of any girl in 10?"
Chorus
And You... you never cared too much for Abraham.
Said "He acts just like he's in the damned 3rd grade."
Looks like he's grown up now.
The way he's fingering your blouse
and by the way you can't take your eyes off him.
Chorus
I never thought I'd see you in no Irish Pub.
Or see the things I've seen with my own eyes.
But, that's my name on that marquee
which means you wanted me to see
just how wrong a man can be in life.
I thought I saw you out last night with Abraham...

Vanity
04:27
|
|||
I was a man of certain vanity
combing up my curls
believing just by breathing
I should exist here in the world
And I had an orange Camaro / and a jacket that was jean
and a date with Bobby Smith's big sister
Everyone knows what that means...
But she was loved by a big ole fool / and how it made him mean
When she had taken back those kisses / and it'd only been two weeks
And I saw as he pulled around the corner
the only Dodge Charger lights in town
And he got right there on my bumper
and he wasn't backing down
And I thought I'd try to shake him
Pushed Bobby's sister to her seat.
She'd been riding in the middle
just'a loving up on me
and I said "Buckle up there Sister."
But I did not make the curve
It was raining and that Camaro
only knew how to make those back wheels turn, son.
Well, that Big ole fool...He pulled me from the car
And he didn't hit me once
Though I'd broken his Sweet Love's arm
He took Bobby's Sister to the hospital
as I watched my Camaro burn
And waited for the Sheriff all alone
Thinking: Unbuckle up there sister
but I did not make the curve.
They were crying and a'driving
as I watched my Camaro burn
I was a man of certain vanity
combing tears all through my curls
I was a big ole fool
and the Sheriff drove me, the Sheriff drove me
Home, Home, Big ole fool
Home, Home Big ole fool
Drove me home, home. big ole fool, he drove me home
Still Thinking:
Unbuckle up there Sister
How I'm taken by her curves
we know exactly where we're driving to
as the fire inside me burns.
I was a man of certain Vanity
She was combing up my curls
I was a big ole fool
And the Sheriff drove me, the Sheriff drove me
Home home...

Never Have I Ever
02:45
|
|||
Never Have I evr Been a Possum in a tree
but I migh'tve played dead a time or three
Lord, Never. Never Have I Ever
Never have I ever been who I am where I am right now.
Never Have I ever Been so Far South
That Orion's Belt hung upside Down
Lord Never.
Never Have I ever
Never Have I ever been who I am where I am right now.
Chrs:
Never have I danced like a broke-back mule
just bucking and jiving like a Gosh darned fool
Spitting out the bit
Slipping out the saddle
braying sideways at the slack jawed cattle
Never have I ever been who I am, where I am right now.
Never have I ever sung a song to the moon
s neighbors shushed me out the window not a time or two
Lord Never. Never have I ever
Never have I ever been who I am Where I am right now.
Chrs:
Never have I danced like a broke-back mule
just bucking and jiving like a Gosh darned fool
Spitting out the bit
Slipping out the saddle
braying sideways at the slack jawed cattle
Lord Never. Never have I ever.
Never have I ever been who I am, where I am
Break you off a piece baby
stick it in your frying pan.
Never have I ever been who I am, where I am right now.

Raincoat
03:02
|
|||
Baby bought me an orange Raincoat
to keep me from getting soaked
While I don't look cool, man, I'm drier than you
And they'll see me when I'm crossing the road
See, she don't like me getting run over
If you don't like me you've got her to blame
So, just bag up that bottle of wine young man
I'm walking up to see her again
Chrs: She's got me in fine condition, fine condition,
She's got me in fine condition
Keeps me in fine condition, fine condition
She's got me in fine condition. She'd got me in fine condition.
Someone told me years ago, "The Secret to staying alive
is just find someone who'll look out for you
better than you've ever tried."
See, if this was snake country
You could bet that she'd buy me boots.
Because I never look where I'm going.
And I'm dumb too. Still....
Chrs.
Bridge: She bought me some nicotine gum,
and got me off that old fast food.
What's a stone cold pimp to do?
So if you don't like me
you've only got her to blame
For Keeping me around this place.
In such Fine Condition
Into Chrs.

End of the Beginning
02:52
|
|||
Chorus:
Well, the End of the Beginning is the Beginning of the End, my friends.
When you think about your life it's a set of goodbyes and then....
You have a couple good conversations with a stranger to think over
And you've always had a secret love for four leaf clovers
and the end of the beginning's the beginning of the end my friends.
You know plateaus come short or long
and it's not really that "something's wrong"
see life graph's funny when your time is never constant
Can Happiness and Comfort always be the same thing?
or outside your yard is the world just greener?
you can never catch no end
chasing rainbows
Chrs--For....
Now the toilet seat's up and their libido's down
talking bout another job they "Might've found."
Said, "Things was looking up,"
while you were looking down at the carpet
Maybe Y'all should try a weekend getaway
but you got a couple bills you haven't paid
and you are wondering:
Who ate the last of the Ice Cream?
Chrs--
Oh, right foot left foot get 'em down
You can march through life, or dance around
and there's a hot band blowing through your old hometown tonight.
Or take your baby dancing in the kitchen after dishes,
Barefoot soles is what's best for dancing
as you laugh, and look 'em in the eye
first time in a long time
Chrs--
