We were down in Lubbock when she told me she couldn't take it
anymore, my gypsy kind of ways
She had her suitcase packed up, with all of her possessions
and it was bulging in an explosive kind of way

My plans fell through in Phoenix, then again in Memphis
and a dozen or more towns along the road
and sometimes I'd write her letters
to places she might've gone

And I rented our old apartment
and painted a mural on the wall
